In Offagna, the presentation of the book “Jan Gołota, an Heroic Tailor” by Giuseppe Mazzaglia

On Saturday, 5 September 2026, at 6:00 PM, the Offagna Municipal Library will host the presentation of the book “Jan Gołota, an Heroic Tailor”, written by Giuseppe Mazzaglia and published by Uno di tutto.

The event is part of the “Libri in Conferenza 2026” series and will focus on the memory and story of Jan Gołota, whose personal experience is intertwined with some of the most dramatic events in 20th-century European history.

The story of Jan Gołota

The book is the result of extensive research and reconstructs the life of Jan Gołota through documents, testimonies and contributions collected over time. His individual story becomes an opportunity to explore the historical ties between Italy and Poland and to preserve the memory of those who lived through the years of the Second World War.

Giuseppe Mazzaglia, an executive officer of the Sicilian Regional Administration, holds degrees in Political Science and History and is a former Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Nicolosi. He is the author of numerous essays, booklets, books and articles on the two World Wars and local history.

The programme of the event

The event will open with institutional greetings from Ezio Capitani, Mayor of Offagna.

This will be followed by the presentation of the book with Prof. Giuseppe Mazzaglia, who will be joined in conversation by the Gołota family heirs, giving the audience the opportunity to learn more about the story told in the book and the research that made its reconstruction possible.

Closing remarks will be given by the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Ancona and the Nuova delle Marche Italian-Polish Association.

Guided visit to the Liberation Museum

Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a visit to the Offagna Liberation Museum, organised by the Offagna Museum Network, continuing the journey through history, personal testimonies and collective memory.

The event is organised with the participation of the Municipality of Offagna, the Offagna Museum Network, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Ancona and the Nuova delle Marche Italian-Polish Association, in collaboration with Visit Offagna.
